Good Tastes Green Programs
You already know that we're committed to providing you with great food. We're just as committed to doing it in a eco-friendly way. It's better for our bodies, our community and our planet.
Culinary Composting Program
Because we prepare our food from scratch using fresh ingredients, there is inevitably food waste that is created. We make sure this rich organic matter doesn't end up useless in a landfill. We compost all of it - carrot tops, tomato stems, onion skins, potato peels, bell pepper seeds, lemon rinds, etc. - right here in Newburyport.
Supporting Local Farms ~ Farm to Table Dinners
One of the foundations of Good Tastes is to support local agriculture as often as we can. Not only will these ingredients have exceptional taste and freshness, but by doing so we will also strengthen our local economy, support endangered family farms, safeguard the health of our communities, and protect the environment.
To bring this goal closer to the dinner plates of our local customers, we kicked off a series of Farm to Table Dinners in July 2009. Together with the farms we had a fabulous time sourcing local ingredients to create a unique culinary experience right there on the farm. Be sure to check back in Spring 2010 to learn about our plans for next summer.
Seasonal Ingredients
Trust us. We love a juicy ripe tomato just as much as you do. But we realize there is a time and a place for everything, and here in New England it is a bit tougher to grow tomatoes in January! When crafting catering menus, or even choosing flavors for our wholesale line of frozen food, we take great care in selecting ingredients that will be available year-round, with as little impact (and traveling) as possible.
At Good Tastes we believe you don't have to be a fanatic to save the planet - simple choices as a consumer will have big impact.
